Write a homepage your customers can understand

· 1 min read

A welcoming shared workspace with natural light

Your homepage does not have to tell your whole story. Its first job is to help someone understand whether they are in the right place.

Say what you do

Use the language your customers use. “Bookkeeping for independent shops” tells a visitor more than “Financial solutions for ambitious businesses”. A specific sentence is easier to understand and easier to remember.

Explain who you help

Name the people you work with and the problem you help them solve. Keep this close to the top so visitors can recognise themselves without searching.

Give each section a job

Introduce the offer, explain how it works and answer the most common questions. If a section repeats what another section already says, shorten it or remove it.

Make the next step clear

Use descriptive links such as “Ask about a website” or “Explore the builder”. Let people know what will happen after they select the link.

Read it aloud

If a sentence feels awkward to say, it will probably feel awkward to read. Use shorter sentences and familiar words. Ask someone outside your business to explain the offer back to you.

See how the builder can help.
